Do You Need An Adjustment?
Growing up, my grandmother was adamant that we have good posture. She insisted that we sat up straight when seated, and stood straight with squared shoulders, our head upright when standing. I didn't always enjoy having my posture corrected. I soon learned that proper posture was critical in other areas of life.
In the seventh grade I was placed in band class. I wanted to play the saxophone but my teacher gave me a Flute instead. I quickly learned that correct posture was needed in order to successfully play ANY instrument. “Sit on the edge of your chair, feet flat, shoulders straight” were the directives given by my music teacher. Each instrument required that one’s fingers, hands, arms, and lips were positioned a certain way in order to produce quality sound. Incorrect posture hindered your ability breathe properly, produce the note, and create a quality sound.
When I entered my high school’s music program, I learned that correct posture was also necessary for singing. There is an appropriate way of sitting in a chair while singing as well as an appropriate way to stand. If you slouch while sitting or standing, you cannot generate the airflow needed to produce or sustain the correct note. In fact poor posture will result in “noise” being generated versus music.
Just as posture plays a critical role in our natural life,it plays a critical role in our spiritual life. HOW we approach and wait on God is just as important as the request/ response. Good spiritual posture requires that we are both DEPENDENT on God and PRAYERFUL. As we pray, there is a proper stance or attitude we must assume in order to receive results:
A. James 1:6 tells us that when we ask , we must BELIEVE that the Lord is able to answer us. If we doubt His ability, we will not receive anything from Him.
B. Psalm 27:14 and Psalm 40:1-2 tells us that we must be PATIENT. Too often we give up or try to help God out by taking matters into our own hands when He doesn’t move according to our time schedule-He moves in HIS time and HIS timing is ALWAYS correct!
C. Psalm 5:3 tells us that we have to EXPECT God to move on our behalf. While we are waiting, we have live our lives and speak as though we are expecting God to respond on our behalf. We don’t make reckless decisions, but we stand firm on God's word knowing that He honors His Word!
Let’s examine our spiritual posture…Do you need an adjustment? If so, change your thoughts so that you can be in alignment with the Word…In position to receive from God!
