REVISED PLANS

REVISED PLANS

Pathway2anewu family,

I believe that planning is critical to success. At the age of 17, I had my life mapped out: College degree, career, husband, home, children, community activist.I even planned the order in which they should occur. I also learned at a young age that our plans have to be submitted to God at the onset. At that time I believed that we had to do that in order for our plans to succeed. As I pursued my first degree, I realized that my plans were being revised by God.

I was afforded the opportunity to have internships which gave me a realistic view of my chosen profession. At the same time, my college sweetheart ended our relationship. He felt that he could not support my career choice. This was devastating to me but it showed me that I NEEDED a different spouse than I WANTED.I continued to seek God's guidance and trust Him even when I didn't understand!

Fast forward 40+ years later : During a moment of discouragement and frustration, I found myself struggling with what constitutes success. I earned both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree.I had a 35 year career that rivaled the crime dramas on television. As a single mother I raised an amazing daughter. I served in Ministry and was my Mom's caregiver for over 10 years. Yet I was wallowing in pity about what had not happened and what I did not have.

The danger in this line of thinking is that you are questioning the wisdom and guidance of God…you are presuming that YOUR plan was better.Too often we use the wrong barometers to measure success. Money and possessions are not necessarily indicators of success.Singleness is not an indication of relationship failure. God's plan for our life does not end in failure, but success! I lack NOTHING that I need.

When you struggle with redirected plans, remember these 3 things:

1.Psalm 37:23-24: God orders the steps of the righteous and will pick you up when you fall.

2.Jeremiah 29:11: God has a perfect plan for our life that will not hurt us, but prosper us.

3. Isaiah 55:8-9: God's thoughts and ways are different from ours. He thinks on a much higher level!
