Things My Mother Taught Me: Unveiling Wisdom, Strength, and Faith

Welcome to the inaugural post of "Things My Mother Taught Me," a series dedicated to sharing the invaluable lessons passed down by my remarkable mother, Ola Allen. Her life was a tapestry woven with threads of wisdom, strength, resilience, Christian faith, and a passion for education.

A Woman of Wisdom and Faith: Ola Allen

My mother, Ola Allen, was not just a beacon of strength but a source of inspiration for all who crossed her path. In times of joy and sorrow, she consistently turned to her Christian faith for guidance. One of her favorite scriptures, Mark 11:23-24, held a special place in her heart and became a cornerstone of her teachings.

"Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." (Mark 11:23-24, NIV)

The Power of Speaking to Your Situations

Through the ups and downs of life, Mom believed in the transformative power of speaking God's word over situations and challenges. Mark 11:23-24, often referred to as the scripture on speaking to mountains, became her anchor during tough times, including her battle with cancer.

In the face of adversity, Mom would declare this scripture with unwavering faith, speaking life into her circumstances and trusting that God's promises were true. It wasn't just about reciting words; it was about genuinely believing in the power of faith-filled declarations.

Believing Beyond Circumstances

The essence of Mark 11:23-24 lies in the conviction that faith can move mountains. Mom taught me that it's not merely about asking for what you desire but believing, with unshakable faith, that it will come to pass. This scripture is a powerful reminder that our words carry weight, and speaking life over our situations can bring about transformative change.

As we delve deeper into "Things My Mother Taught Me," I look forward to sharing more of her cherished scriptures, recipes, sayings and the profound life lessons she imparted. Join me on this journey of reflection, inspiration, and the enduring impact of a mother's wisdom. In the coming weeks, we'll explore additional scriptures that guided her through the peaks and valleys of life, leaving an indelible mark on my heart and the hearts of many she touched.
